José Gómez Pérez Britto, the project leader responsible for investment strategies, gave a presentation at the University in Mindelo on the island of São Vicente. This was also part of the AHK business trip 2019 under the title "Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy for Agriculture and Fishery in Cape Verde". Pèrez Britto introduced our group and the project to government and business representatives.
The current Cape Verde energy system relies heavily on fossil fuels. Fuel prices and therefore energy costs are substantial and account for 70% of the electricity price. Yet the natural resources solar and wind could contribute significantly to sustainable cost reduction for the electricity and heating generation required 24/7 in the industrial sector.
With Frescomar, a member of the UBAGO Group [1], we were able to attract the first customer from the fish processing industry by explaining the benefits of switching to renewable energies. By the end of this year, within the framework of an initial demonstration plant, the first 125-CWPeak project will be installed in cooperation with GTEK Lda, a service provider on the archipelago for more than 20 years.
During the business trip, the group's potential for a total of 3 MW was presented to Mr. Paulo Veiga, the State Secretary for Maritime Economy, and Rito Évora, the director responsible for energy at DNICE, Direção Nacional de Indústria, Comércio e Energia. Existing legislation for autoproducers allows for the compilation of a joint feasibility study which can be submitted for approval to the responsible ministry, DNICE.
"It's really unusual that so many companies and their directors welcomed us with open arms and such a positive response. Mostly, they reacted to our financing and implementation model for a PV or hybrid PV/wind model and integrated storage concept with just one basic question: "When can we start?". "We're particularly happy about the excellent cooperation with Chris Pauly of GTEK. He is contributing his contacts and expertise for safe and reliable implementation as an essential part of our activities", said Ubbo de Witt, a managing partner of the Projekt Group.
