"I'm already here!" – Fridays for Future shows the way

More than 10,000 people make a stand and demonstrate in Oldenburg for better climate protection and bolder policies.

The North German folk tale about the "Haasen un den Swienegel" (The Hare and the Hedgehog) and their race against each other could hardly be more fitting.

The self-appointed Climate Cabinet has expressed in best politico-speak an aim to implement the possible and to "take the people with us on the journey". While the committed protesters at the climate march proclaim "I'm already here!".

In the story, the hare can't understand why he keeps losing; the two animals run the race 73 times with the same result. During the 74th race, the hare collapses and dies ₍₁₎.

The Climate Cabinet has issued a white paper ₍₂₎ which will fall far short of achieving the necessary greenhouse gas savings by 2030 - but which ensures the survival of the Grand Coalition government.

At the same time, the CO2 price policy sets a price that fails to reflect the urgency of scientific findings, but instead formulates an "accepted price corridor" which consumers will (have to) consider normal at the petrol pumps in the coming weeks of the autumn break. The Transport Ministry continues to believe in figures whose catastrophic miscalculations are only exceeded by the recent toll charge disaster. The government continues to hamper the expansion of wind energy.

We must not wait for progress sometime in the future, but demand it now! Fridays for Future takes on this challenge, and we will take this path together. For over 30 years, we have been dedicated to renewable energies, and we'll continue to advance steadily and sustainably, and not go backwards!
