The coastal location of Pinhal in Rio Grande do Sul, the main seat of the company, the permit for a wind farm with an output of 22 MW and confirmation of a grid connection for the neighbouring substation were the crucial reasons behind the deal. After an extensive due diligence study, the subsidiary HGE – GERAÇÃO DE ENERGIA SUSTENTÁVEL LTDA. purchased the project on 4 June 2012. On 30 April 2013, the national regulating authority AGÊNCIA NACIONAL DE ENERGIA ELÉTRICA (ANEEL) issued the final approval for implementation of the project, which has now been published.

A company of the Habitasul group, CELULOSE IRANI S/A, was the first Brazilian company certified according to the environmental standard ISO 14064: Environmental Management - Quantification, Reporting and Verification of Greenhous Gas Emissions. The TÜV-Nord technical inspection body has already attested the company's positive environmental performance; due to extensive forestation activities and monitored protective areas, it has achieved a greenhouse gas reduction totalling 650,701 t of CO2.
