With the Volvo C30 Electric, Volvo is developing an international small series of 250 cars based on the C30. The C30 Electric is a volume-produced car featuring the safety for which Volvo is famous.
The electric motor has a capacity of 82 KW (111 HP). It reaches a top speed of some 130 km/h. Thanks to the 220-NM engine, the almost 1.7-ton car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 10.9 seconds. An additional, fuel-operated heating (ethanol or petrol) ensures that comfortable interior temperatures and wintry exterior temperatures don't reduce the range. At up to 150 kilometres, this is much farther than other electric vehicles.
During the fleet trials, Volvo itself will evaluate the operating data of the C30 Electric. Customers can also access the vehicle data via the Volvo C30 Electric phone app.
Ubbo de Witt, Managing Director of the Project group, says: "It's a brilliant driving experience: powerful torque, good acceleration, no emissions; you simply glide through traffic. There's only one slight drawback: no noise. That means you have to watch out for people who don't expect to encounter a silent car.
Incidentally, the Project group gained its first positive experience with an electric vehicle as early as more than ten years ago with a Golf CityStromer. However, Volkswagen cancelled production of the model in 1996 after building 120 vehicles.
