Climate protection is nature protection, BWE
During the general election campaign, the CDU chancellor candidate declared his commitment to reconciling economic success and climate protection, to sustainability, Europe, climate goals and of course "a high quality of life everywhere in Germany, because quality of life should not depend on your post code".
The CDU election manifesto offers something for everyone, but it does not help in the fight against global climate change and the resulting natural disasters. It was already alarmingly unconvincing, and now it is being overtaken by reality!
Let the free market sort it out: "If Germany were to lose prosperity in the climate crisis, no other country in the world would follow the German path to achieving the climate goals", explained the candidate in the FAZ [2]. However, in July the spot market EEX EUA SPOT[3] listed the current price for CO2 at almost 60 EUR/t. In its motor vehicle tax reform, the German Federal Government set the price per ton of CO2 for 2021 at EUR 25. This resulted in a petrol price increase of approx. 7 cents per litre.
In the current situation, it seems almost reassuring that the Green Party in recent weeks was only focused on the communication disaster it created in its own party.
In 2020, [4] the electricity mix in Germany was dominated by renewable energies, which accounted for a share of 50.5 percent. Currently, wind energy is Germany's most important electricity source, generating 27% of the net volume produced. However, in North-Rhine Westphalia, its share is just around 6 percent. The state's new "Act to Amend the Act on Implementation of Construction Law in North-Rhine Westphalia" requires a blanket minimum distance of 1,000 metres between wind turbines and buildings. The additional restriction is described as necessary for the protection of personal quality of life!?
"I'd like to call on the candidate to REALLY come together for Germany's future".
The US psychologist and psychotherapist Carl Rogers once said: "The only person who cannot be helped is the one who blames others". Ubbo de Witt, a Managing Partner of the Projekt Group, comments that this could apply to the CDU politician.
